Your First Visit
Your first visit to our office will involve a dental exam, an oral cancer screening, gum disease evaluation, assessment of previous restorations and treatments, and evaluation of teeth surfaces for decay. Our team will perform the exam, and if they find reason to, they may recommend preventive care including but not limited to fluoride treatment, sealant placement, breath control, and periodontal gum disease treatment. Prevention is the best way to fight periodontal disease, and is very easily accomplished with daily brushing and flossing, as well as regular dental visits. These prevention techniques are very simple yet effective in preventing many dental conditions including tooth loss, gum disease, and bad breath, and can also benefit your overall health. Our team is committed to making you feel comfortable and safe, whether you’re having a checkup or periodontal therapy.
Sealant, resin material, is paramount in protecting tooth enamel from the deteriorating effects of plaque and acids. When placed on teeth surfaces, sealant bonds into the depressions and grooves, pits and fissures, of those surfaces and acts as a barrier. When these pits and fissures decay, cavities can form; according to the American Dental Association, more than 80% of cavities are caused by this decay. However, if the sealant is placed properly and maintains its position, this decay will not occur, and the resin material is sturdy enough to withstand the effects of chewing. Several years can pass without a reapplication, but during your dental visits we will check the condition of existing sealants and apply and/or reapply wherever needed.
